ABOUT THE FILMS
Along with the feature presentation of Indian Horse, which had its theatrical debut on Orange Shirt Day in 2018, we are offering a series of short documentary collaborations created by the Drawing Wisdom team. Generous Spirit is short animation about Indigenous education, HIV Healing Inner Voices is a film about combatting stigma, Nat’sa’mat A Healing Journey looks at support for MMIWG, Down Town Stories and our most recent film – premiering in this event – Connection is Medicine explore community and resilience. With your free or pay-what-you-can ticket, you will have access to a viewing page where you can watch all or any of these films for the two-week window. Host your own mini-festival and dialogues! And watch the reply of our September 21st live conversation!
ABOUT THE CONVERSATION REPLAY:
The grassroots movement of Orange Shirt Day started as a way to raise awareness and honour the survivors of residential schools. As this movement grew, the Canadian government co-opted the day, making it the statutory holiday National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Watch the replay of thoughtful and thought-provoking conversation which we hope will bring about your own discussions honouring and challenging the Canadian notion of “reconciliation.” And for non-Indigenous people we hope you will consider making the ‘holiday’ Monday on October 2 a day of contemplation and a chance to consider what actions you will take based on the Calls to Action from the TRC reports.
